A MODEL GIRL - ABOUT THE ORIGINAL MASTERS & MUSICIANS
![]() |
| Emma Williams and Johnny Edgecombe, a lover of the real Christine in the early 60s |
So, in place of a miraculous resurrection, here is a collection of my favourite original masters of songs from the show, all arranged and produced by Maestro Jon Baker (who also contributed drum and beats programming, bass, keyboards, backing vocals and all sorts of stupendous wizardry). What a genius!!!!
On these recordings, the songs that Emma Williams sang so well at Greenwich were sung (with true Capricorn commitment and passion) by our original Christine, the divine Alex Jay; Lorraine Bruce’s were sung by the multi-talented funny-bone-tickler Jackie Clune; Graham Bryan’s by the indefatigably charming Cornell John; and James Clyde’s and Dale Rapley’s by, yes, yours truly, Marek Black (using a most proper accent, let me tell you, guys ’n’ gals).
Meanwhile, the legendary Gerard Presencer played heaps of first-class trumpet and flugelhorn, Jasper Smith contributed excellent guitar throughout, Julian Landymore several fab sax solos, and Simon Brown some brilliantly challenging brass arrangements on ‘Mr Wigg’. You’ll also find Mr Marek Black noodling away on piano and keyboards here, there and everywhere, and, of course, he sings lots and lots of BVs along with Jon B. (I love doing BVs!!!!)
So, for your aural pleasure, here is my selection of SONGS for A MODEL GIRL by RICHARD ALEXANDER & MAREK BLACK.
From the moment Gerard’s trumpet starts soaring over Jon’s fabulously evocative strings, it’s a one-and-a-quarter hour musical journey that I still treasure …
