  1. PARADISE IS LOST (Marek Black - Robin Millar - Pickford Sykes) 3:24

I remember recording this vocal in Maida Vale, having done a gig in Cornwall the night before and having had only a couple of hours of sleep before winging it back to the city. Robin plays a superbly crazed solo, and Pickford – who wrote the brilliant basic riff - recreates the swirling synths that Duncan Browne played on the original demo. “So you push me down like you always do ... Well, I’m on my knees - do you think I’m through?” Love it!

  2. GO FOR IT! (Marek Black - Richard Alexander) 3:50

Mutt Lange introduced me to Adam, and the top track that came out of our collaboration was this fabulous energy trip, which features the astonishing keyboard playing of Derek Austin - including the prog solo to end all prog solos! - ludicrously powerful drumming from Ian Peace, and some great low piano octaves from me at the end! (Brill engineering from Tony Platt too!)

  3. RICH (Marek Black - Richard Alexander) 5:13

Roll me in gold, fold me in notes: yes please! Check out another of Martin Dobson’s coruscating sax solos on this ambitious little ditty ... and hang on in there for a quadruple chocolate & amaretto fudge sundae of an ending, with Chris' guitar solo as the topping, laid on over thick layers of sax, strings, piano, rhythm guitar, bass and drums ... mmm yeah! ...

  4. LOOK AT THE SUN (Marek Black) 4:16

This was one of the three of my songs that my sadly short-lived, piano- and mellotron-driven band, Bloody Mary, recorded. Robin pulls out a fab solo at the end, where the track starts to groove like a Fleetwood Mac classic, with Henry, Gordon and Pickford all chugging along very nicely. Look at the sun ... what does it mean? Perhaps the peacock knows! (The most amusing thing about this track is that the well-known manager who paid for the session suggested that I shave my head and paint it blue if I wanted to “make it”. Well, let’s face it, looking at the peacock, I clearly should have done ... .)

  5. THE YOUNG BOY ON THE HILL (Marek Black) 4:32

Not a little influenced by Led Zep, whom I saw for the first time when they played the Toby Jug, Tolworth, the night before Led Zep I was released, this was another fab Bloody Mary track. It features a beautifully structured guitar solo from Robin and brilliant textures from Pickford. Well, I’m still running to the sea ... chasing that elusive butterfly ... waving ... waving ...

  6. GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE (Marek Black) 3:51

I love this track. Totally ‘up’! Loose and messy, with some truly risible vocal affectations from the author, it takes off during the main solo and flies like an uncontrolled rocket right up to fade out! Robin, Gordon, Micky, Helen ... brilliant stuff, guys!
